Kidman Signs for Narnia Movie?

Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman has been signed to star in a new movie version of CS Lewis' classic children's novel The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe. Studio bosses at Disney - who are backing the project - were desperate for Kidman to play the White Witch, and her two kids with ex-husband Tom Cruise, Isabella, 11, and Connor, nine, convinced her to say yes.

The article continues to say that this is going to be an "ambitious project," and filmed...yes, you guessed it...in New Zealand.

fine. she can be witchy. but she'll have to dye her hair. i'm still not convinced i'm excited about this anyway. c.f. my comments on previous entry.

if it weren't for the theological silliness of the phrase, i'd be wondering if Lewis is about to join a host of other authors (tolkien a bit, but not too much) barrel-rolling in their graves. but i guess we'll see.

The portrayal of Aslan will be the key.
If he ends up being a big CG muppet that has Santa inflections, you might as well throw the whole thing into the stable with Shift.

i'm hoping Aslan isn't a Shrekkish computer-animated hulk of a cartoonish caricature. that sounds vague and jumbled, but it's therefore all the more accurate description of my first reactions. considering who's directing, i'm just really hesitant to anticipate adequate portrayal.

Shrek was great great great ... technique, etc...in its own genre. this is so not that genre, and it alarms me that the children of the future may cast aside the books and imagination to accept this portrayal instead.

call me bitter. call me negative and pessimistic. call me all kinds of derogatory psychological and physiological terms.

but the works of Lewis are practically my alma mater. cut me some slack if i'm not ready for the movie bandwagon quite yet.
