Quote of the Day articles
Justice Antonin Scalia once asked: "What secret knowledge, one must wonder, is breathed into lawyers when they become justices of this Court, that enables them to discern that a practice which the text of the Constitution does not clearly proscribe, and which our people have regarded as constitutional for 200 years is in fact unconstitutional?" As he lamented, the Supreme Court "is busy designing a Constitution for a country I do not recognize."

quote from Albert Mohler's Weblog from a book review on the judiciary.

Pawned Nuclear Gauge Found in the news

I wonder if I was at Wal-mart the day it was stolen...

Stolen nuclear gauge found in local pawn shop

The device, a moisture density gauge used to take ground measurements by projecting radiation into the ground, was stolen from a pickup truck in a Wal-Mart parking lot on Military Highway [Norfolk, Virginia] last month, according to police. A pawn shop owner contacted 13News after seeing our report about the stolen device. A man who works for the company which owns the device says it does not appear that it was tampered with.

The FBI and the device's owner picked it up at the pawn shop today. They haven't found the person who stole it and pawned it though.

Not Even a Hint books

I finished Joshua Harris' book Not Even a Hint today.

Yes, it took my a while. I want to say in my defense that I read many books at one time. But in reality, I just left off reading it.

But it is a really good book with very practical advice. It was so encouraging to me because Harris really explained (1) that there is no quick fix for lust; (2) God's grace is sufficient; (3) God's command for us to find and participate in a local church; (4) the need for accountablity from close godly people in our lives.

I would recommend this book to be read...more than one time. I know I intend to look back over it. And read it as many times as I need.

washing and worship bible thoughts

I just had a great time washing dishes, praising the Lord and praying. Three things on which I was meditating, I wanted to share.

I'm googling now computers

I'm trying out Google's Desktop Search. It is just a beta, and hasn't reached full potential for me because they haven't added indexing for Mozilla Firefox or MozillaThunderbird. Nevertheless, it has already been very helpful.

It looks just like Google and works the same. But searching on your computer will never be the same.

There is one security concern for those who share a computer. Because there is no separate log on, someone could go through your files. But, hey, isn't that the purpose of a beta, to test?

The grandest instrument music

I have just downloaded a new soundfont (used for composing desktop music). It is the best organ soundfont I've ever had.

Here is a file using the stops from this organ. Now, this is a hasty file, so don't judge it too harshly. I am hoping to use this sf2 extensively in the future, so I'm sure you will hear more of it soon.

echoes through the glass

There is no light but God's Light.
There is no sound but His Word.
There are tender mercies for the weary:
Echoes of mercy on waves of grace.

fatigue update

I am at the point where I am tired of being tired. I don't seem to be able to sleep well anymore.

It's a good thing God doesn't get tired. And He never sleeps.

quiet update

I am printing an 8th grade grammar test for my sister. My printer seems to be the one working the best for now.

I don't usually get up at 6:00 am if I can avoid it. I've never been a morning person, so to speak. If I do get up early, I like solitude and quiet. No talking. No loud sounds. Sometimes this lasts for hours. I would just do a little hand wave to my roommates' good morning. And now I do it to my family as well. No speaking. Only the quiet morning.

Sometimes I think I am too quiet.
