Red Sky at Night

It's always been a desire of mine to sail somewhere.

Not along a coastline or across Lake Erie, but between continents.
A six week journey or so....maybe on a sturdy, voyaging sail
drawn boat.

Actually, I can see it happening.
Pull up some old schematics of a schooner or flagship.
Dump a huge amount of money into construction and supplies.
Band together some friends and enthusiasts and set out
about ten years after the initial inspiration date (this blog.)

To see the stars that far out. To NAVIGATE by the stars.
And the next time land is seen is in some other area of the world,
that for some reason, water was the only barrier.

I just finished reading through Acts, and I was inspired by Paul's journey
to Rome through the Mediterranean Sea.

Just think of how exhilarating it would be to push off from and American harbor town and see the shore of Ireland a couple months later....hmmm.

From Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

like the new look, kammer. the 3 helps me. i feel much more complete with it around. you're quiet these days--getting geared up for school? i saw a 3-mast ship in galway bay at the irish fest, and lots of rowers in races. i'm not quite in shape for that kind of thing, but if your cruise requires a videographer/photographer...maybe i could devote some time to toning up and work split shifts on the oars and camera.

hill, where's your new blog? are you in sc? they don't have a scottish fest around here that i know of, but there were plenty of the highlanders partaking in the irish fest stuff. i saw some great scottish highland dances and so on. i believe there is an annual scottish heritage celebration of some kind in georgia (near stone mountain? can't remember)--so that would not be far from your home.

ben, i like your green stuff too.

joy, i have no clue where my blog is. ben emailed me week before last and told me that it would be up by that weekend. but now he is at steph's so i guess it won't be happening in the new future. i keep thinking of entrys i could post, but alas. not to be. i am not in greenville yet. mom is down this week looking for a house....she may have found one. it has a waterfall behind it! (pelham falls subdivision in greer.) i like it, so pray hard!

Joy, the "3" is definitely all about you.
And yes, sorry for the lack of posts
I did take a look at some of the acts that came through Irish fest and it looked pretty exciting. There's only a few celtic groups that I've gotten into; Kila, Lunasa and a little bit of Altan and another one called Ayuna, but that's a little bit more Euro-world music, if that makes any sense. Then of course, there's the Chieftans and anything shooting out of NPR. But yeah, it looks like the fest was exciting.

Hill, I was in the Common today and was pleasantly surprised to see Merideth. She explained a little bit about the house-hunting,
pretty much what you had explained before. But all seemed well. And absolutely no wookie insults, which I'm thoroughly convinced is all your doing!

And if either of yous be takin' a fancy to sparrin' the mast or swarpin' the mish'n'mash, or even if ya plans on keeterin' the 'ol grogwash then ya best be feastin' your eyes on the 'ol salty-dog book 'o slang.

Yarr! Do I scare children and puppies with my scabard?

dunno if you're scary enough for that yet or not. if you need just a little something-something to push you over the edge into true fear-evokery, might i recommend a skirt? i saw some men in kilts with swords at the fest, and i was afraid of a couple of them.

or you could just don a wookie costume...you wouldn't have to do too much....maybe just die your hair and get some fuzzy brown carpet...=)

glad you saw mer. she is a keeper! and she was the one who said your name first and i just reiterated it. and mer is too proper to say anything like that in general conversation!

You'll see why you're twice when I'm done.
