Fireflies and 1 Corinthians 10:31

Philadelphia is full of beautiful old churches. And I love going inside them. One such church is
Old St. George's Methodist, the oldest Methodist church in America and “the church that moved the bridge.”

At Old St. George’s gift shop I bought a copy of The Journal of Joseph Pilmore. Pilmore was the first pastor of St. George's and a lesser known Methodist leader after the Wesley brothers, Whitefield, and Asbury, to name a few. This is an excerpt from an entry dated Monday, June 27th, 1770.

“As we returned in the evening, I was surprised to see such an amazing quantity of little Insects (called fireflies) darting through the air, and sparkling with their little lights as if they would shew forth their praise of him who is the brightness of the Father’s glory and the express image of his person.”
