they pop up too big. do i edit them in photo shop before i upload them????? any advice here?

yeah, just do an image-resize in a photo editing software (even MS Photo Editor is good for this) and then re-do the other, if you want (i.e., resave, and reupload, and replace what's already there, and repaste your html).
