Using Prototype at SitePoint.com

There's a very handy article over at SitePoint.com that will help anyone interested in AJAX programming or JavaScript/DHTML interfaces: Painless JavaScript Using Prototype.

It works well as an introduction to the Prototype JavaScript library (something I'm using a lot these days), but it also works well as a reference. It has links to several other great scripts and some solid code examples to get one started.

I'm sure it's not the best place to go if you're new to JavaScript, but if you're into interface scripting and AJAX, I highly recommend it.

Per Brade's all too reasonable request, the link is now available. :)

thanks, I had a feeling it wasn't the screenreaders article...

so this is the jscript stuff that's mostly bundled with rails. I've a certain project I'm itching to build on rails, so I'm sure I'll be using this soon enough...

How long have you been doing Rails? or are you just getting started?

I looked into Rails when it first came out, but shoe-horning it into our servers was going to be a headache. In the meantime, I've moved into using CakePHP (a Rails conceptual derivative) until I make time to work Ismo into having some of these new features.

You might give Cake a try if you're into PHP. You could try Ismo if you're really brave. :) It had some things Rails has even before there was a Rails. There's plenty to be done one it, but it's got some very clean code as it's base (none of it mine as yet).

Anyway, I may as well write a new post at this rate...

I've not done anything production-level with rails yet, but I've done a few of those tutorial-esque things with it. (however I have worked with ruby quite a bit, I wrote my paper on it for schaub's PLD class.) I like the possibilities of rails, and it seems to have about a 99% favorability rating these days. I think my idea would fit with it really well, so there's no harm in trying. I will look at this Cake business for my webtech php stuff though...
