Babette's Feast

Here's another one I saw, which I picked up for two reasons: 1, my awesome creative writing teacher, jamie Turner, gave an interesting discussio of it in one of her books, "A Garden to Keep," which I came across, oddly enough, in Germany, where I was living for most of last year...which leads me to my second reason: the film (the version I saw) was in Danish with sub-titles, and I wanted to see how similar Danish was to German. So I confess, I was distracted when I saw this film, too, because I kept thinking, "OOOOO, that's the same word in German, with a different dipthong!" and whatnot. I did enjoy this film, though, and found the overall message more clear and truth-centered (and conclusive) than "Ponette." It was also subtle, and made use of a lot of biblical allusion wityhout whacking you over the head with it. I recommend it :o)
