An interesting article on what's shakin' in the arts right now.
I've never heard their music but I must say I am rather dismayed by the lyrics for "Mother Earth." Anti-Biblical sentiment is to be expected from non-believers to be certain. But to have taken at least some sort time read the scriptures and not only miss the point completely but to twist it into something so empty is, to me, a shame. Ironically it is from the album title "hope." A false hope at best.
The author hints at this in the end of his article:
"What seems to be missing in the lovely music of Sigur Rós is the understanding that the pilgrimage they invite us on is not a safe one. Not just any leap of faith will do—some end not in the clouds but in crumpled wrecks on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff. The voice of mystic and Scripture are united: not every path leads to the light and most leaps of faith end badly. It is not the quality of our trust that finally matters, but what and who we trust."
I would like to hear the music nevertheless.
