Oh dear. This is funny.
I think this is a warning to those of us striving for 'relevance.' The problem with enveloping your message in the culture's ephemeral trends is that the culture's ephemeral trends are just plain ephemeral. This photo essay is fine example of the culture's tendency to make itself entirely worthy of the mockery of future generations.
Posted by jonsligh at February 13, 2006 09:44 AMmarcy scares me.
but this site i shall share.
(these were funny then, too, right? i doubt we'll be mocking a. peterson in 2026....?)
i remember little marcy. can anyone explain the plethora of singing families? i remember seeing singing families a lot when i was a kid, and i did actually see one at a large greenville church a few years ago, but for the most part they seem to be a dying breed.
Posted by: sligh at February 13, 2006 02:03 PMsad to say i was not raised around religious venues that would host such migrating musical talents. but the first book i illustrated was for this worthy clan:

WOW.
1) Is that a sarcastic "thank you for the dove"?
2) The tammy faye/lion one is possibly the most disturbing thing ever.
3) Alice Williams's dad's suit rocks. I want one.
4) Country Church... um yeah.
5) Let Me Touch Him... eeew.
6) The Karatist Preacher might be more effective in video format.
7) Truthettes: best group name ever.
8) We totally used to own the Disney Carols.
9) Something Special w/ Jeff... hey does Patch the pirate need a sidekick?
10) Firm Believer: most depressing lack of scruples award
11) Mr. Bat Sings... make it stop. NOW.
12) World's Most Unusual Family: not so fast, look right above you.

Posted by: gwen at February 13, 2006 11:04 PM"Thank You For The Dove" wins first in my book. I wonder if that dove was alive. And if it was how did they get it to stay still? Probably was stuffed. In that case, no thanks for the dove. :)

What?!
Thanks for reminding us of the ugly stepchildren in our family. :-)
I know that those of us who like music all would love to make our own records, but there's got to be a point at which we realize that the world doesn't need yet another poorly produced CD of favorite hymns. Don't get me wrong--I LOVE the hymns. But it's possible to wear them out when approximately half of the Christian CDs on the market include "Be Thou My Vision," "How Deep the Father's Love For Us," and "There Is a Fountain." It's a shame we don't have a pope, because then we could get him to pass a decree that all Christian CDs contain at least 75% original music.
BTW, look at the website again. They've added more albums.
My favorite is the first one. In a surreal blend of straight-faced sincerity and harrowing simulacra the performer stands there, grinning naively, surrounded by a gang of menacingly inanimate puppets, with "Bible Stories that Live" written around him.
Posted by: master of puppets at February 18, 2006 01:43 PMDid you know that Thank You For The Dove is a gold album and is still available on Mike's Web Site?

Posted by: John at January 17, 2007 12:38 AMOur new video site launches have almost sold through all offered text links. Many are set not to go "live" until the sites are fully launched -- some are currently still in soft launch. We'd like to have all links wrapped up by Friday the 27th, and you can decide whether you want them live right away, or not until the sites are 100% launched, which will be July 1.
