the "face" of a nation
Has anyone ever heard of Principle Approach Education? Our family got a news letter from them today, and they were making some pretty big claims about restoring America or as they put it: "'the character of the Republic.'"
This brochure is for The Noah Plan which I assume refers to Noah Webster from the picture of the 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language (although, I wouldn't discount the alluded pun of the Biblical Noah from the tone of the newsletter).
I don't mean to be cynical. And maybe that's part of the problem they are referring to in America these days. I will do some more research. But I am very curious to see who has heard about this.
Here are some websites:
The Foundation for American Christian Education
Principle Approach International
Posted by micah on November 21, 2003 01:58 PMAfter seeing the website (www.face.net), they are indeed talking about Noah Webster. Should children really be made to use the 1828 dictionary for homework? That's something the website suggests. It also claims modern dictionaries (eg. Websters Collegiate [well, they use the 1981 ed.]) are propaganda. What do you think?
Posted by: james micah at November 21, 2003 02:03 PMseeing that i'm going to be entering the world of homeschooling, i took a cursory glance at the website. had never heard of it before. i too picked up on the subtle 'noah webster or bust' theme. i like the classical education idea. the k-5 resource list had a french book listed. good idea to start the language young. but avoiding the propaganda of modern dictionaries is a little much. in my use of roget and webster and american heritage, i've never once thought any of them had an agenda.
they are 1828 websters only. :)
