so I'm going out to purchase my Christmas parakeet...and he needs a name. (emphasis on the "he")...so I'm calling on the likes of Cory, Tim and all you other creative sorts to help me with a name..
Well the Lord has been good. Very good. It's not even Christmas and I am over 1/3 of the way to my support total ($3300).
I won't embarass this person by posting their name but a good chunk of this is due to a dear friend who is faithfully sending me money every month. I feel there is no way I can ever put into words how completely overwhelmed and thankful I am for his generous gift.
If any of you would like to support me financially, leave your email as a comment to this post...I know a few of you did on my last bolivia post and I will include you in my next letter mailing.
Please continue to support me with your prayers as well. I'm getting so excited about the opportunity to serve in this country. This semester at school will prepare me to do a lot of basic patient care things like take vital signs, draw blood, etc. It's going to be pretty awesome.
I'm hoping that after the 2 months of hospital work this summer I can make a final decision on the direction of my second degree. I just realized I haven't blogged in a while. wow.....I've received counsel from a lot of people in the last few months, the most important from an elderly nurse of 35 years who opened my eyes to some other career/degree options. She suggested that I become a Physicians Assistant but I've also discovered during these 2 semesters of prerequisites that I have a natural inclination towards microbiology. The three paths I'm going to be choosing between are 1: continuing in Nursing, 2: continuing to take the necessary prereqs and do the PA route or 3: head to MUSC or VCU and get my masters in Microbiology (which I'm really leaning towards).
Med school has even been suggested but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to pursue that at this time. Maybe later.
Who knows, there are a lot of options and I'm really thankful I'm unattached to anything at the moment and able to pursue them. I've realized that it's a great thing to be so young and to have all of life (as God allows) ahead of me. I can't imagine just settling down at this point...I think I'd feel like I'd wasted the years, talents and desires the Lord's given me. Anyway. I digress.
Meanwhile, I'm going nowhere with all this snow so hopefully things will warm up enough tomorrow so Gabe and I can go out and get the last of our Christmas presents...we've been slackers...
So if any of you frequent the news, you already know that the blizzard hanging over Colorado and the Plains is the top story. And yes, Yours Truly is sitting directly under it. There's a roughly 3 foot drift outside Gabe and Mandy's front door, the city streets have been shut down with a ticket/fine awaiting anyone trying to go anywhere, and we've been watching movies since around 2 this afternoon.
We were supposed to be at a formal dinner party/madrigal performance that Gabe was in tonight but alas, it got canceled and isn't getting rescheduled. :-( As this was the reason my family and I came out here we're rather disappointed but we're having a good time with the brother and sister in law.
It's nice seeing real snow again after having been in the south for several years now.
Hopefully it'll blow over soon b/c Gabe and I have both been pretty slack in our Christmas shopping thus far and need to get out to the stores.
Merry Christmas to all! I'll be blogging occasionally...
I came into the possession of a rather worn but charming manequin a few years ago that has been around since the thirties or forties. I used to have her sitting in my room wearing a hat and funky shirt but it's come to the point that she and I need to part ways (meaning, I'm moving back in with my parents and just flat don't have room for the armless/legless wonder).
If any of you eclectic/artsy/vintage sorts are interested in owning an antique manequin bust, let me know. I'd rather not have to ship her and she's free b/c I didn't pay anything for her....although donations would not be turned down and would be muy appreciated as I'm jobless as of this coming Saturday..
Here are some pics. No she's not wearing anything but she's plastic so let's all be mature. Like I said, she's pretty banged up but she's got the coolest glass eyes.
