Retreat and Food Night

Over the weekend I went with my church college group to a town called Franskraal near Hermanus (where the sharks are). We stayed at a church member's beach house the whole weekend and ate a LOT of food, had great Bible studies, and went to the beach, of course. It was so refreshing. I should have gotten more homework done. It's nice to get to know some more South Africans, though! International students can be like one big clique sometimes! It's terrible. Speaking of which, last night was the annual International food night in the student center on campus. The international students made dishes from our countries to raise support for the Kayamandi project (to buy school supplies for the kids there, basically). Countries from Botswana to Sweden to Mexico were represented. I didn't try it, but Botswana's table had caterpillars and cow intestines. Appetizing... Mexico's table was pretty popular. There were two American tables. One had s'mores (you could roast them over candles and a propane stove) but my American table made "Thanksgiving dinner." We had out-of-this-world stuffing, pumpkin pie, and "turkey" (really chicken, but turkey's too expensive here). We ran out of dishes towards the end, so I guess you could say it was a success. Lots o' fun :-).

Hey, is anyone throwing a St. Patrick's Day party back home? Sarah Lyons, I'm holding you responsible (wink, wink)! Anna, my favorite sister, is arriving here on St. Patty's Day. I'm so excited she and Jason are coming! (just kidding about the "favorite sister" thing--they're all my favorites.)

How about some more pictures, Cate!! It's so good to hear from you. Don't have too much fun at the beach while we're in rainy, dreary Greenville. We're praying for you!
